A coastal oil painting born from slow mornings, ocean swims, and one very special weekend.
Some paintings hold more than just paint—they hold a feeling. A memory. A shift.
Floating Into The Unknown is an original 30x40-inch oil painting on canvas that came from a reference photo I took on a beach camping trip with my best girlfriends. We had the camper pulled up right to the edge of the dunes. We’d wake to the sound of the water lapping the shore, sip our morning coffee with sand on our feet, and swim before breakfast. Night swims, breezy dinners, belly laughs—it was one of those weekends that sticks with you.
The painting pulls you right into that memory. You’re in the water, floating beside two soft-focus figures beneath a grey, overcast sky. The ocean is a cool, dreamy green, with a few delicate bubbles rising to the surface—like a breath held, then released.
It’s subtle, steady—one of those pieces you find yourself returning to without even realizing it.
This coastal-inspired seascape started with intention, but like most of my paintings, it evolved along the way. I planned the composition, but as I worked, the greens needed softening, the bubbles needed shifting, and the mood took shape on its own. Somewhere in that process, it became this quiet, in-between place—about trust, stillness, and letting yourself drift into whatever comes next.
If you’re looking to add a large-scale coastal oil painting to your home—something that feels peaceful, emotional, and just a little mysterious—this piece might be the one.

And if the scene looks familiar…
You’re not imagining it. That same beach trip sparked more than one painting. It’s where I took the reference images that eventually became part of my Double Dipped series too. There’s something about those murky green tones, soft light, and the way limbs reflect on the water that keeps calling me back. I find new inspiration in it every time.
Plus—those are the same best friends modeling in some of those paintings too. They’ve unknowingly become the muses behind some of my favorite pieces. Which is probably why this little series of seascapes feels extra meaningful to me. It’s more than just the water—it’s the memory tucked inside it.
Thanks for reading and floating along with me.
