The Journey Behind “Wandering Tide” – A Story of Rediscovery

Sometimes, paintings hold stories beyond what you see on the canvas. For me, “Wandering Tide” is one of those pieces—a work that carries not just paint but a tale of inspiration, frustration, and, ultimately, rediscovery.

I started this painting years ago, brimming with ideas and excitement. But as I worked, the vision I had in my mind refused to translate onto the canvas. What began with enthusiasm turned into a struggle, and eventually, I gave up.

I tucked the painting away in the corner of my studio, convinced it wasn’t meant to be.

Years later, during a move to my current studio, I stumbled across it again. Pulling it from the dusty corner, I felt something stir—an understanding that this piece wasn’t finished, just waiting for its time.

This time, I approached it differently. I set aside the reference photo that had once boxed me in and painted from memory and feeling instead. With each brushstroke, I focused on the essence of the moment—the soft fog rolling in, the rhythmic pull of the tide, and the dance between detail and abstraction.

What emerged wasn’t a perfect recreation but an evocation of a fleeting moment: the kind of scene where you can almost feel the cool mist on your face and hear the ocean’s gentle hum.

Now, “Wandering Tide” is complete, and I’m thrilled to share it with you. The original painting is available on my website, waiting for its forever home. (Original painting has now SOLD)

If you love the piece but are looking for something more accessible, I’m excited to offer fine art prints of “Wandering Tide”!

This piece is a personal reminder that even when inspiration feels lost, it can always return. I hope it resonates with you as much as it does with me.
